The Defender of the Fatherland Day (День защитника Отечества Den Zashchitnika Otechestva)
is celebrated on 23 February, and is a day of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The holiday was established in 1918.
10 - 11 Dec. 2012 - War Veterans celebrate freedom and light in Tel Aviv
On 10 December, friends and partners of the Veterans Union of disabled soldiers and partisans from the war against Nazism celebrated at the Bukhara - Yafo Hall.
The guests were welcomed by the President of the Union, Brigadier General Roman Jagel. After the greetings and congratulations the Hanukkah Candles were lit which was also attended by the Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Israel, Alexander Kryukov.
On 11 December the Veterans Union of the Second World War - the Fighters against the Nazis held a solemn meeting of the central council of the Union on the occasion of Hanukkah, in the " Beit Panorama " celebration hall complex.

Battle of Stalingrad
Military History Conf. organized by the Russian Federal Agency Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Israel, the Russian Embassy, the Union of Disabled Soldiers and Partisans from the war against the Nazis and the Veterans Union of the Second World War - the Fighters against Nazism.
Opening the conference,Alexander Kryukov, Head of the RCC welcomed the participants and gave a general presentation on the progress of the battle from July 1942 to February 1943 between the Don and Volga.

10 Oct - Rehovot - 35 years celebrated by the War Veterans Union
Solemn celebration of the 35th anniversary
of the Veterans Union of the 2nd World War fighters against Nazism.
Opening the meeting, the Chairman of the Union, the former front scout , holder of many awards and medals Abram Grinzayd, congratulated all those present and spoke about the history of the veterans' movement in Israel.
Ministers, Knesset members, ambassadors and military attaches of several diplomatic missions, mayors and vice mayors of several cities, leaders and activists of social organizations had gathered to congratulate the veterans...

11 Sep - 71 years of the Nazi siege of Leningrad (September 8, 1941).
At the entrance to the RCC,the arriving guests, blockaders of the Leningrad defense and members - traditionally lit candles in memory of those who survived 872 days of brutal Nazi siege of the city on the Neva. -
In the lobby, which features materials and pictures of the blockade, as well as photographs of Leningrad,the members of the Union of Leningrad Blockaders in Israel had gathered from all over the country, and the younger generation of Israelis - people from St. Petersburg. On the big screen the documentary film directed by S. Loznitsa "Blockade" was shown.
The Head of the FA Rossotrudnichestvo in Israel Alexander Kryukov, warmly welcomed guests from all over Israel, former citizens of Leningrad ,participants and witnesses of those terrible and heroic events and spoke about the close partnership of the RCC with the Union of Leningrad blockaders in Israel.
Union leader Sonia Barulya (Jerusalem) thanked the RCC for the traditional warm welcome and the friendly support.
The artistic part included a concert by the famous artist Alexander Dov art song, performing the works of Okudzhava, Alexander Galich, L. Filatov, B. Akhmadulina and others, as well as songs of his own.

05 July - Haifa - 35 years World War II Veterans Union Conference
Israel's largest veteran's organization of the Union of Veterans of the second world war-fighters against the Nazis held a conference summarizing 35 years of activity.
Consul General of Russia in Haifa, Igor Popov and Vice Mayor of Haifa, Julia Štrajm warmly congratulated veterans on their holiday, wished them health and also noted the significance of the diverse work of the Union, which has long transcended one country.
Assistant Head of FA Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Israel, Denis Parkhomchuk joined in congratulating the veterans and stressed the productive partnership and joint projects of the Russian Cultural Center and Union Veterans, in particular, its northern branch.
At the end of the event the Northern District Union activists were given commemorative medals and diplomas.

In Israeli Netanya, Pres.Vladimir Putin and Israeli President Shimon Peres took part in a ceremony of unveiling a monument to the Red Army’s victory over Nazi Germany. Great Patriotic War veterans also attended the ceremony.
The initiative to build the monument came from Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu during his visit to Moscow in February 2010, and received the Russian leadership’s support. The monument was designed by Russian architects and sculptors and was built in Netanya’s central district. read more >>>

6 May - St George Ribbon Campaign also in Israel On the eve of Victory Day celebrations in 92 countries around the world, including in Israel, the traditional action of "St.George's Ribbon" in honor of grandparents and ancestors, the feat of winning the fascists in World War II, kicked off.
The main aim of the action is to remind new generations by whom and at what cost the worst war of last century was won. Everybody will get a St. George ribbons in the Russian cultural centre in Tel Aviv.

President of the Veterans Union of soldiers and partisans – war against the Nazis, retired General Roman Jagel celebrated his 90th anniversary. A legendary person, past the path from Private to Colonel of the Polish Army and Brigadier General in the Israeli army, r. Jagel stood at the cradle of the Israeli state, was Governor of the old city of Jerusalem,and represented the Israeli police at Interpol.

29 March - Gathering of fighter friends in Haifa
A solemn assembly was held in Haifa, the northern branch of the Veterans Union of World War II - fighters against the Nazis with the support of city hall and the FA Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Israel, to honor women who served at the front and the rear during the Leningrad Blokade.
The Chairman of the Haifa branch of the Veterans Union, Eugene Lebengard, Vice-mayor of Haifa, Julia Shtraym, Consul General of Russia in Haifa, Igor Popov, and the Head of the FA Rossotrudichestvo, Alexander Kryukov welcomed the guests and women - activists of the Veterans Union and wished them health and strength.
The Head of the FA Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Israel,Alexander Kryukov noted the huge contribution of the women at the front, soldiers and partisans, and the blokadniks of Leningrad,recalling that in the Red Army during World War II 30 thousands of the daughters of the Jewish people fought selflessly.

15 March - XX Congress of the Veterans Union of Disabled soldiers and partisans from the war against the Nazis Created in the Jewish community of Palestine shortly after the end of World War II, the then Union of wounded soldiers grew and developed together with the young State of Israel. The main motto adopted by the first builders of the Union, - "Remember and tell" to perpetuate the memory of Military Merit and deliver it as a baton to the young generation in the country, the Israel Defense Forces soldiers, all contemporaries.
The Leadership, activists and members of the Union were constantly challenging public awareness to preserve and promote the historical truth about the real winners in the Second World War, relying on the basic thesis of "victory in 1945 made possible the creation of Israel in 1948." read more >>>
23 February 2012 - " Defender of the Fatherland " Day celebrated by veterans and youth in Beit Shemesh
In the context of events on the Russian Fatherland Defender's Day holiday, February 23, a festive evening for war veterans was organized by the Youth Association "Yadarim" ("Russian-speaking Israelis").
The newly created organization, which became the partner of the FA Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Israel and the Russian Cultural Center in Tel Aviv, aims to involve young Russian-speaking Israelis in active political, social, economic, cultural and educational activities for the benefit of Israel in light of the development of friendly relations with Russia.
Assistant Head of Mission, Chief Specialist of the FA Rossotrudnichestvo in Israel, Denis Parkhomchuk welcomed the participants and congratulated the veterans on the " Defender of the Fatherland " Day, wished them good health, and expressed gratitude to the leader Ivan Bodrov and the members of the "Yadarim" youth association for their noble work in support of the veterans.

On February 23, " Defender of the Fatherland " Day - the RCC hosts war veterans from Kiriat Haim at the invitation of the Russian Federal Agency Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Israel, supported by the Russian Embassy and the Russian Consulate General in Haifa,a joint delegation of the Veterans Union of disabled soldiers and partisans from the war against the Nazis from Kiryat Haim (Haifa District) visited the Russian Cultural Center in Tel Aviv.
Songs of the Great Patriotic War created a special holiday atmosphere in the courtyard of the RCC,and in the hall which was decorated with the state flags of the Soviet Union, Russia and Israel, a copy of the Victory Banner, and the display of a historical and artistic exhibition, "To the glory of the soldiers of Russia", devoted to " Defender of the Fatherland " Day added to the festive atmosphere. read more >>>
15 Feb 2012 - The Soldiers from the Afghanistan war (1979-1989) remembered in Israel
February 15, on the day of the 23rd anniversary of the complete withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan at a memorial rally that was held at the initiative of FA Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Israel, flowers were laid at the country's only monument to the soldiers who fought in the Afghan war, located in Ashdod.
Representatives of the embassies, military attaches from Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the Mayor of Ashdod, community organizations, unions, veterans and disabled World War II, soldiers, and former "Afghanis" now living in Israel gathered in Ashdod to honor the fallen soldiers and officers who were carrying out their international duty, and wishing health to the veterans who had gone through the fire.
The ceremony was opened by the initiator and the technical project leader of the war memorial, Solomon Hendelman. He spoke of those who helped and supported the creators of the monument.

30 Jan. 2012 - The 68th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad remembered at a special evening of memory and herosim at the RCC
A Memorial Concert dedicated to the heroism during the Leningrad blockade was given on January 30, 2012 at the Russian Cultural Center in Tel Aviv during an artistic memorial evening dedicated to 68th anniversary of the complete lifting of Nazi siege of Leningrad.
The Union of Leningrad blockaders from different cities in Israel and representatives of the younger
generation of Israelis – natives of St. Petersburg were met in the foyer of the Russian Cultural Center,
which was decorated with memorabilia and pictures of the blockade, as well as photographs of Leningrad.

In Israel, the 68th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad was remembered with a ceremony at the war memorial in Ashdod
Members of the Russian Cultural Center in Tel Aviv in Israel, visited the only monument to the victims of the 900-day siege of the city on the Neva. The monument was created in 2004 in Ashdod.
In his welcoming speech, the Head of FA Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Israel,Alexander Kryukov said
that the blockade of Leningrad is written into history as one of the most tragic and at the same time,

Medal of the Government of Moscow for Israeli veterans
On 25 January a presentation ceremony of commemorative medals awarded by the Moscow Government to veterans living in Israel, who had fought in the great patriotic war, participants of the defeat of the fascist troops near Moscow in the autumn – winter 1941-1942.
The Chairman of the Union, Abram Grinzajd welcomed the representative from Moscow and noted the attention and support which the veterans and invalids of the great patriotic war received from Russia, represented by the Mayor of Moscow, Embassies and the FA Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Israel.

January 11, Haifa . The Veterans Union of disabled soldiers and partisans from the war against the Nazis held a memorial meeting on the 70th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi troops near Moscow for which the leaders and activists from the Union's city branches of the northern districts had gathered in Haifa.
The meeting was opened by the chairman of the District Committee of the Union Smorodov Isaac, who outlined the course of military operations in the fall and winter of 1941-1942 near Moscow and gave an overview of the relationship between the number of weapons and opposing groups of Wehrmacht and Red Army.
Consul General of Russia in Haifa, Igor Popov stressed the heroism of the sons and daughters of the Jewish people, who united and moved all the peoples of the Soviet Union who fought in the Great Patriotic War, including in the grand battle for Moscow.
