15 Feb 2012 - The Soldiers from the Afghanistan war remembered in Israel



February 15, on the day of the 23rd anniversary of the complete withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan at a memorial rally that was held at the initiative of FA Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Israel, flowers were laid at the country's only monument to the soldiers who fought in the Afghan war, located in Ashdod.

Representatives of the embassies, military attaches from Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the Mayor of Ashdod, community organizations, unions, veterans and disabled World War II, soldiers, and former "Afghanis" now living in Israel gathered in Ashdod to honor the fallen soldiers and officers who were carrying out their international duty, and wishing health to the veterans who had gone through the fire.

The ceremony was opened by the initiator and the technical project leader of the war memorial, Solomon Hendelman. He spoke of those who helped and supported the creators of the monument.

Vice-Mayor of Ashdod, Boris Giterman in his speech stressed that for the third consecutive year since the opening of the memorial on the anniversary of the troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, people from all over Israel come to Ashdod and visit the memorial.

Russian military attache, Colonel Pavel Subbotin, on behalf of the Minister of Defense of Russia handed over to Israeli "Afghans," the glory of gratitude, respect and wishes of good health.

The Head of FA Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Israel, Alexander Kryukov thanked the fellow soldiers and officers of the Soviet Army, who honorably had fulfilled their military duty as part of the limited Contingent of Soviet Forces in Afghanistan, and also noted the importance of preserving the memory of their heroism wherever they live today,compatriots from the Soviet Union - CIS .

The creator of the memorial, sculptor Edward Dolkrat told how he managed to express sorrow and pride of the Soviet Afghan soldiers of different nationalities in a modest monument .

В Израиле помнят воинов-афганцев

 

15 февраля в день 23-й годовщины полного вывода советских войск из Афганистана по инициативе представительства Россотрудничества в Израиле состоялся мемориальный митинг и возложение цветов у единственного в стране памятника воинам-афганцам в Ашдоде.

Почтить память павших солдат и офицеров, выполнявших интернациональный долг, а также пожелать здоровья прошедшим сквозь огонь афганской компании собрались представители посольств и военных атташатов России, Украины, Казахстана, Узбекистана, мэрии Ашдода, общественных организаций, союзов ветеранов и инвалидов ВОВ, воины-афганцы, живущие в Израиле.

Церемонию открыл автор идеи  и технический руководитель проекта мемориала Соломон Гендельман. Он рассказал о тех, кто безвозмездно помогал создателям обелиска.

Вице-мэр Ашдода Борис Гитерман в своём выступлении подчеркнул, что уже третий год подряд с момента открытия мемориала в день годовщины вывода войск из Афганистана около него собираются люди со всего Израиля.

Военный атташе России полковник Павел Субботин от имени Министра обороны России передал израильским «афганцам» слава благодарности, уважения и пожелания здоровья.

Руководитель представительства Россотрудничества в Израиле Александр Крюков выразил благодарность соотечественникам – солдатам и офицерам Советской Армии, с честью исполнившим воинский долг в составе Ограниченного контингента советских войск в Афганистане, а также отметил важность сохранения памяти об их подвиге везде, где живут сегодня выходцы из СССР - СНГ.

Автор мемориала скульптор Эдуард Долкрат рассказал, как ему удалось в скромном памятнике выразить скорбь и гордость советских воинов-афганцев разных национальностей.
