June 12 - Russia Day
The main Russian holiday, which marked the beginning of the modern history of the state and the Russian Federation.
June 12, 1990 the first Congress of People's Deputies adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Russia, proclaiming the supremacy of the Russian Constitution and its laws.
The Declaration affirmed equal legal opportunities for all citizens, political parties and public organizations; the principle of separation of legislative, executive and judicial powers; the need for a substantial expansion of the rights of autonomous republics, regions, districts, edges of the RSFSR,adopting the new name Russian Federation (Russia).
